Support me and my family as we walk to end Alzheimer's! From l to r: Rich Saal, Erin Saal, Dana Saal, Ellen Piper, Jerry Piper, Denise Piper, Julie Saal. Not shown: Dean, Marilyn and Douglas Piper.
In 2005 my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. I am thankful that my family and I recognized the signs so that medications to slow the progression of the disease were started early. If any of you were to meet him on the street today you would not know that there was anything wrong, but my family and I are aware that the disease is slowly taking away the father that I grew up with and have relied on for so many years. True to the vows she took 50 years ago on August 15, 1959 my mom is supporting my dad “for better or worse, in sickness and in health”. She is adjusting to all of the changes in my dad’s abilities and is making it easier for him to cope with the changes he recognizes in himself. She could not do this without the support of the Alzheimer’s Association.
My dad, mom and my family have benefited from the support and information provided by the Alzheimer's Association. The funds I raise will go directly toward supporting their efforts.
Currently more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's, and 78 million baby boomers are at risk – unless we find a way to change the course of the disease.
By participating in the 2009 Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk®, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support. I will be walking with my parents and my sister and her family on September 26 in Springfield, IL. My brother and his family (in Florida) will be with us in spirit on that day.
I want to do my part to fight this disease, but I need to ask for your support! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's.
On behalf of the millions of Americans who are living with this disease and their families, thank you for supporting my efforts.
We're on the MOVE to end Alzheimer’s!
